The Lake District National Park
The Lake District became a national park in 1951 and offers the visitor a wide range of activities. The area provides outdoor activities such as fell walking, boating, water sports, climbing, riding etc all carried out against a backdrop of some of the most beautiful and dramatic countryside in the UK. In addition to its outstanding natural beauty, the area has had an important historical and cultural role down through the centuries and a lot of this heritage has been preserved for the visitor.
